Bendandi Astrologer and Scientist

By Lou Raedwulfe

By now, it is apparent that the forecast by the late Italian seismologist, Raffaele Bendandi, of a massive and destructive earthquake in Rome on May 11th 2011 which was given wide coverage on the Internet in recent days, has not come to pass in Rome. However Spain was hit hard by an earthquake on May 11th near Lorca, Spain, killing at least 10, causing major damage to buildings. Given Bendandi's alternative and admittedly mysterious methodology used to predict earthquakes, the fact that Rome was not destroyed in a day (to paraphrase English playwright and poet, John Haywood) will undoubtedly provide ample ammunition for those who worship at the altar of conventional science to trumpet once again that "astrology and all other alternative views are complete nonsense".

The accurate predictions that have been made recently by psychics and astrologers should not be ignored when one contemplates the horrific events around the middle east and let us not forget, Japan. The increase in disruptive events in north Africa, Japan and now Spain make it difficult to dispute that sensitive people are picking up these disasters just before they happen.

Bendandi's theory of earthquake prediction actually attempted to blend both conventional and alternative sciences into a single tool to provide advance warning of the earthquakes whose devastating effects he had witnessed first-hand in 1908 during the destructive event in his hometown of Faenza, Italy. After studying both astronomy and earth science, Bendandi joined the Italian Seismological Society in 1920.

Bendandi felt that there was a direct connection between the pull and effect of heavenly bodies, such as the moon and planets, and the earth's crust much like tides are affected by the approach of the moon. Clearly, this effect would be multiplied by planetary alignments (such as those found in astrological calculations). By studying these relationships, he felt that earthquakes could be predicted in advance. This has to be viewed as a revolutionary attempt to blend the traditional and conventional sciences with those alternative methods used by esoteric practitioners.

The precise method that Bendandi used was never shared and, as a result has been criticized and largely ignored by contemporary science. That many of his forecasts were accurate seems to have had little influence on those whose world view is only based on empirical testing methods (and the funding for those tests).

Given the recent events which occurred during the Super Moon cycle, and the extremely accurate predictions of just such events occurring made by Kit Karson, among others, it would seem that alternative science does have its place in helping and advising us as to the destiny that may await. This certainly is not an attempt to supplant or ignore conventional science; rather by using ancient crafts and modern technology and tools, a true cosmic balance can benefit everyone. It should be remembered that Ptolemy was the father of both modern astronomy and astrology and found that both views have given the heavens their place in the affairs of humankind.

Maybe there will come a time when once again astrology will be included in the school curriculum, even if it were taught as part of history, which it is. Many thousands of lives could have been saved in both Haiti and Japan had they been forewarned by both scientists and astrologers or psychics.
