The Fascination Of The Zodiac Pendant!

By Dane Masters

People are fascinated by zodiac signs. since ancient times, this symbolic wisdom has been handed down in the form of art or jewelry, as signs on landmarks and walls. The sign bearer comes to know about his/her personality traits, what are good signs and what are bad, what the future holds, etc. Any item can be used by the bearer of the sign to be kept nearby--crafted on a pillow with needlepoint or a poster sketch or etched into a ring or a car air freshener with a painted zodiac sign on it. It is not necessary that a necklace with a pendant carrying the zodiac pendant be the only way to carry the sign on person.

When I was younger and still not fully appreciative of my mother's thoughtfulness, I received from her a cigarette lighter (after she accepted that I smoked). On the lighter was the sexual position for Leos. I had looked closely at the lovely gift, and found that the image in silhouette was one which featured a woman sitting astride a man, both man and woman with their legs out in the air in a gleeful pose. I am sure that if a zodiac pendant were in the same shop, my mother would have snatched that up, but seeing at a glance the "Leo" engraved on the hatch, she investigated no further and brought the item home, not realizing she was condoning, maybe, more than her teenaged daughter's smoking habits.

But, since this piece of writing is full of digressions enough, I digress. Instead, I feel compelled to comment on the beautiful zodiac jewelry I found online, and on the zodiac pendants that are available and accessible and affordable at sites such as ebay, et. al.. On a 16 or 18 inch silver chain and costing a little over 100 bucks, a one-inch Leo zodiac pendant appeals to me greatly. It is silver, my preferred metal, and it is somewhat understated yet creatively rendered-it is a lion's head with a flowing mane that is encrusted with a few cubic zirconia.

Another kind of pendant still features the sign of the zodiac but is the sign itself, the symbol, rather than the animal. This necklace is even more subtle, as it is-in my case, as a Leo-just an upside-down "u" with a curlicue at each leg of the symbol. Still other pieces of jewelry featuring the astrological signs are equally lovely.

On ebay, which will be different once I stop writing and you start searching, of course, there are hundreds of choices, including those in 3-d with inlaid turquoise, those that are like tiny plaques, and those that emphasize the name of the sign or leave the sign name out and focus on the material-the silver, gold, or copper or leather. The prices range from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars, and the options-if you catch them in time before bidding ends-include different sizes, shapes, inscriptions, and information. If you look closely, you might even find one of the 1970s classics-with the designated sexual position. Then again, you may opt to steer clear of the classics and stay safely within the realm of the elements, the icons, and the astrological traits more suited to you and yours.
